RF Meters
RF meters are used to detect radiofrequency and microwave radiation from cell towers (3, 4, 5G), cell phones, WiFi, Bluetooth, radar and other wireless systems.
#1 Recommendation: Safe and Sound Pro II
Undoubtably the best consumer grade RF meter on the market. Accurate and reliable. It not only measures the peak of the field, but also average power density. Single axis, however, move it around 360 degrees whilst tilting up and down to get a measurement very close to your ‘3D exposure’. It measures frequencies between 200 MHz to 8 GHz.
#2 Recommendation: Safe and Sound Classic II
If you don’t need to know exact levels and prefer something half the size of the SAS Pro II – this is the perfect meter. I personally use it more than the ‘SAS Pro’ due to its convenient size. The classic gives you a range. If it lights up 100 uW/m2, it means the level is between 100 to 1,000. It measures the same frequencies as the pro model – 200 MHz to 8 GHz.
#3 Recommendation: Acoustimeter AM-11
The Acoustimeter has been a popular RF meter for over a decade. It’s accurate and gives both the fields peak and average. However, it is larger than the safe and sound models and gives peak readings in volts per meter (uW/m2 is preferred)! Conversion of units is thankfully as simple as looking across to the average column. It measures all frequencies between 200 MHz to 8 GHz.
Gigahertz Solutions Note: Gigahertz Solutions make great RF meters. However, all their meters in the non-professional price range (< $1,000) are highly directional and/or with a more limited frequency range (than the models above).
Gauss Meters
Gauss meters are used to detect AC magnetic fields from power lines, stray currents, appliances, substations and transformers.
#1 Recommendation: AlphaLab UHS2
Our number 1 choice goes to the AlphaLab UHS2. A highly accurate gauss meter for a very reasonable price. It automatically calculates the 3D exposure (3-axis), so no calculation or fumbling around required! It measures frequencies between 13 Hz to 75 kHz.
#2 Recommendation: Gigahertz S. ME3830B
An excellent meter that measures not only AC magnetic fields, but also AC electric fields (2 in 1)! Unlike the AlphaLab UHS2, it can only measure a single axis. To get a ‘3D exposure’ measure in the x, y, z positions. Then calculate the square root of x2 + y2 + z2. It measures in nanotesla (nT) frequencies between 16 Hz to 100 kHz.
#3 Recommendation: EMFields PF5
Another great 2 in 1 meter measuring both AC magnetic and AC electric fields. It’s also the cheapest of the bunch! A single axis meter that gives a range. Move it around on the different axis slowly to find the highest reading. It measures frequencies between 20 Hz to 50 kHz.
Electric Field Meters
Electric field meters are used to detect AC electric fields from power cables, home electrical wiring, extension cables and power lines.
#1 Recommendation: SLT Body Voltage Meter
A great way to measure your AC electric field exposure is by seeing how much voltage has coupled onto your body. A body voltage meter will measure the voltage that is present on your skin.
#2 Recommendation: Gigahertz S. ME3830B
An excellent meter that measures not only AC electric fields, but also AC magnetic fields (2 in 1)! It’s a single axis meter that is measuring the electric fields in the air not on the body like the body voltage method. It measures in volts per meter (V/m) frequencies between 16 Hz to 100 kHz.
Prefer to Cheat and Jump Straight to Removing EMFs?
Whilst testing is great, buying all the meters can be costly! You’re also left stuck not knowing where to start in removing all 4 deadly EMFs.
There is a much more effective solution than buying all the meters, trying to test and figure out how to remove all the EMFs on your own.
